
Hugo Cabral Mendes
Hugo Cabral Mendes, born in 1999 in Lisbon, Portugal, began his dance training in 2016 at Projeto Quorum of the Quorum Ballet Academy, where he worked with Luís Marrafa, Daniel Cardoso, Cláudia Nóvoa, Bruno Duarte, among others. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Artistic Creation and Professional Practices at the Escola Superior de Dança.
Since 2018, as a performer, he has collaborated with Raimund Hoghe, Aldara Bizarro, Diana Niepce, Daniel Matos, Adriana Sá Couto, Rodrigo Teixeira, Miguel Moreira, Marco Martins, among others. In 2024, he worked as an assistant creator to Jonas Lopes in an ESTUFA production, a community project in Cambelas, reviving an extinct carnival as part of the Centennial Program of the Torres Vedras Carnival. He also created the video for the exhibition “Cambelas: Expression of Popular Creativity.”
With Diana Niepce, he performed “O Outro Lado da Dança” at Culturgest Lisboa and co-created “Memórias Vividas,” a piece commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April Revolution, premiered in Portimão.
As a creator in the performing arts, he is currently touring with his first production, a children’s performance co-created with Inês Gomes, “A Maior Flor do Mundo,” which premiered in February 2022 as part of the Centenary Celebrations of José Saramago.
His solo debut came with “O SER INUMANO,” where he took on the roles of producer, director, choreographer, and performer, premiering in May 2023 at the Festival Cumplicidades. That same year, he also created “O Campo das Cebolas” in Serpa, at Musibéria, and was one of the choreographers for Ball Modern at Culturgest Lisboa, contributing two choreographies for this community project throughout 2023.
