César Faria Fernandes

Born in Montijo, Portugal, in 1987, César completed his dance education at the Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional in Lisbon.

 

In 2005 he received a scholarship to attend the Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung in Munich, Germany, where he worked with Alexander Prokofiev and Roberth Nort among others.

In late 2005 he joined the Portuguese Contemporary Dance Company (C.P.B.C) under the direction of Vasco

Wellenkamp and later Pedro Goucha Gomes.

In 2007 became an associate member of TOK’ART until its closure in 2016, where he performed works by André Mesquita on a free-lance base. Their present collaboration extends now as Cortex Works.

In the year 2008 he joined Nederlands Dans Theater 2 where he stayed until the summer of 2011—under the direction of Gerald Tibbs—creating works with Jiri Kylián, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Johan Inger, Marco Goecke, Lukas Timulak, Ivan Perez and Alexander Ekman.

In 2011 César joined NDT1 under the direction of Jim Vincent (2011-2012), Paul Lightfoot (2012-2020) and Emily Molnar (2020-2023).

In NDT1 César performed works and did creations with renowned choreographic voices such as Jiri Kylian, William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Paul LightFoot and Sol Leon, Marco Goecke, Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, Johan Inger, Hofesh Shechter, Gabriela Carrizo & Frank Chartier (Peeping Tom), Lukas Timulak, among many others.

Also in 2015, as part of Korzo Productions, César collaborated with choreographer Joeri Dubbe in his creation

“Kitsune".

Presently working as a choreographer and free-lance dancer with ‘Cortex Works’.
